Befriending Service, Food and Medication Outreach

Tiwa Sickle Cell Disease Foundation provided holistic support to approximately 50 people living with Sickle Cell Disease across Lagos and Ondo States through our Befriending, Food and Medication Support Outreach.

In Lagos, beneficiaries received support at a designated outreach venue, while packages were also delivered to those unable to attend across Lagos. In Ondo State, our team conducted door-to-door befriending visits, checking on beneficiaries' mental health, emotional wellbeing and general welfare.

Beneficiaries received food hampers containing basic routine medication, providing practical support to individuals and families facing the financial and social challenges of living with Sickle Cell Disease.

Impact

Direct impact: Improved access to routine medication and food support, reduced feelings of isolation, strengthened emotional wellbeing, and enabled early identification of health and welfare needs.

Indirect impact: The programme helped ease household financial pressure, supported families caring for people with Sickle Cell Disease, strengthened community connections and demonstrated the importance of combining medical, nutritional and psychosocial support in Sickle Cell Disease care.

Through this programme, we continue to ensure that people living with Sickle Cell Disease are seen, heard, supported and not left behind.
