At Tiwa Sickle Cell Disease Foundation, we provide holistic support to individuals living with sickle cell across Lagos and Ondo State. This outreach combines befriending services with food and medication distribution, recognizing that warriors need both practical assistance and emotional support to manage their condition effectively.

The befriending service is a unique component of our outreach that pairs trained volunteers with sickle cell warriors who may be experiencing isolation, loneliness, or emotional distress. These volunteers visit warriors regularly, offering companionship, a listening ear, and emotional support. For many warriors, these visits are a lifeline, providing them with a sense of connection and belonging that is essential for their mental health.

Alongside the befriending service, the outreach includes the distribution of food items and essential medications. Proper nutrition is critical for sickle cell warriors, as a well-balanced diet can help reduce the frequency and severity of crises. We provide nutritious food packages containing items such as fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, and supplements that support overall health.

Medication distribution is another key component, ensuring that warriors have access to the drugs they need to manage their condition. This includes folic acid, pain relievers, and other prescribed medications. By providing these free of charge, we alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure consistent treatment.

The outreach covered communities in both Lagos and Ondo State, reaching warriors who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities or support services. Our volunteers traveled to homes, community centers, and local clinics to deliver food, medication, and companionship.

This outreach demonstrates our belief that supporting sickle cell warriors requires more than just medical care. It requires a holistic approach that addresses physical, emotional, and practical needs, ensuring that warriors feel valued, supported, and connected to their community.
